Incomati River Lodge is a small and exclusive coastal lodge situated on the Macaneta peninsula just north of Maputo, Mozambique. This exclusive lodge is set on the banks of the Incomati River, close to the sea in the wide bay that the early Portuguese explorers once named Delagoa Bay. With just 4 en-suite chalets accommodating 8 guests Incomati River Lodge offers self-catering accommodation with self-drive option and is an ideal location for that special family holiday in Mozambique.

To reach Incomati River Lodge you have to cross the river on the Batelao Ferry, while waiting for the ferry to reach your side of the river you can visit Julio’s Restaurant and Pub for an ice cold beer or cool drink. After crossing the river the lodge can only be reached by boat or by 4x4 vehicle, creating an aura of remoteness. If you are not travelling in a 4x4 there is a secure courtyard at Julio’s where you can leave your vehicle until you return from your exclusive Mozambique holiday.

Incomati River Lodge has a central lounge and bar area with a wide wooden deck built over the river. The view from the deck is of the wide tidal Incomati River slowly flowing past the lodge, the sunsets and sunrises in Mozambique are exceptional. The swimming pool is situated next to the bar and also has a view of the river, what better way to spend your time during the heat of middle of the day than to relax in the pool with an ice cold local beer or a caipiriniha.

The exclusive self-catering accommodation at Incomati River Lodge normally accommodates 8 guests in 4 comfortable en-suite chalets, but can accommodate up to 12 guests sharing as triples, ideal for families with children. All of the chalets are en-suite with a shower and have overhead fans and mosquito nets; they are secluded and private, with 3 of the chalets perched over the wide tidal river.

Although self-catering the lodge staff will prepare all your meals and a dedicated housekeeper is on hand to ensure that you avoid unnecessary hassles whilst on your family holiday in Mozambique. In addition if you wish to go and buy prawns or seafood one of the lodge staff will go with you to make sure you get the best deal. All the meals are prepared in true Mozambique fashion with the Portuguese influence creating a unique blend of Mediterranean and African cuisine. Delicious seafood like prawns, langoustines, giant crabs, clams and fresh sea fish that Mozambique is famous for are served on a daily basis. The staff at Incomati River Lodge are willing, friendly and proud both of their lodge, their culture and beautiful country.

Leisure activities can be arranged every day depending on the weather and group preference, these activities include horse riding, deep sea fishing, canoeing and boating on the river and to the ocean at the river mouth, 4x4 trips to deserted beaches, birding walks on the flood plains, beach picnics, sundowner cruises and cultural tours to the villages, markets or the city of Maputo. The cost of these activities is dependent on the number of guests participating and can be obtained on request.

The flood plains of the Incomati River stretch out between the river and the sea with distant dunes in the background. Macaneta’s peaceful rural scene is completed by the local fisherman on the river and cattle in the distance under the watchful eye of a young herd boy. The Macaneta peninsula separates the river from the sea has a unique charm and character akin to an island forgotten by time. Here the local villages eke out a simple existence of subsistence agriculture and trading, Incomati River Lodge shares this special place with the community. The Incomati River is home to many species of water birds as well as a raft of hippo and the occasional pod of dolphins that venture up river.
